Proverbs 26:21-22

If you constantly find yourself in fights, it is likely that you are the one causing them. Just as fire needs something to burn, so a fight requires someone being quarrelsome to get started.

Psalm 102

Our lives are short and the prime of our days does not last for long. If we rely on our strength and ability we will end our days in sorrow. But God is forever strong and He never changes. The earth and the sky will pass away, but God will remain long after they are gone. Let us praise the Lord and worship Him. If we rely on Him He will continue to give us joy into our twilight years.

Hebrews 1

The author makes the point that Jesus is greater than the angels. First he points out that God called Him His Son. Then He points out that the Son was present at the Creation. Therefore, Jesus was not Created. Since the only thing which was not created was God, this makes Jesus God. While I do not believe that this passage is enough to support the idea of the Trinity by itself, it is the starting point for that understanding. The Mormons teach that Jesus is first among the angels. This passage clearly rejects that notion.

Lamentations 3

The writer expresses deep depression. He is suffering great torment, yet despite the terrible things he is experiencing he has hope in God. He knows that God is faithful and that His mercy endures forever. God is good to those who depend on Him. Wait quietly for the Lord and good things will come to you. Yes, God will bring grief to those who break His commands, but He will show compassion to those who repent of their sins and turn once more to Him.

October 30, 2014 Bible Study — Do Not Worship Angels

For today, One Year Bible Online links here. I have been convicted over the last few weeks to seek to develop a disciplined prayer life. It is still a work in progress. Please pray for me, that the Holy Spirit may show me how to pray in a disciplined manner.

Proverbs 26:21-22

There are some people who are constantly at the center of strife and trouble. They choose to spend their lives stirring up trouble and fomenting arguments. If you want a peaceful life, avoid spending time with such people.
It is satisfying to hear rumors. However, we need to be careful about them. They can easily become accepted as facts without confirmation and we, all too easily, judge people on the basis of things we believe to be true that isn’t. As soon as you hear a rumor work to confirm it, or dismiss it as untrue.

Psalm 102:1-28

Let us emulate the psalmist when trouble comes upon us. Let us call out to the Lord and beg for His mercy. Let us acknowledge our fault in causing His anger and repent of our sins. Most importantly, let us recognize that it is only through God’s strength that we can accomplish His will. If we fail to do this, He will break our strength to show us our need for Him.

Hebrews 1:1-14

Jesus is the Son of God and one with God. The writer tells us that Jesus, the Son of God, laid the foundation of the earth. That is, He took part in the Creation of the Universe. We worship Jesus as God because He is God.
This passage contains another message that is important. It is one that I only realized the importance of in recent years. The author tells us that angels are only servants, that we should not worship them. Angels are spirits sent to serve and care for those who have accepted God’s salvation. This message is important because there are those in our society who place too much focus on angels. Angels are messengers of God and are only due the honour of a messenger.

Lamentations 3:1-66

Yes, we will suffer the consequences of our sins. Let us submit to the discipline the Lord lays on us for our sins. It is wrong to complain about the things we suffer. Instead let us examine our ways and turn back to the Lord. Let us confess our sins and acknowledge that we deserve the suffering which we experience (and probably more than we experience).
    I love verse 23:

Great is his faithfulness;
his mercies begin afresh each morning.

Things may have been bad yesterday, but each morning God offers us a fresh day to come before Him and do His will. We may cry in fear and despair, but if we call on the Lord, He will answer our cry. He will come when we call out to Him, we need not fear. He offers us salvation and tells us not to fear.

October 30, 2013 Bible Study — The Lord Is Good to the One Who Seeks Him

I am using One Year Bible Online for my daily Bible study. For today, One Year Bible Online links here. I have found that by writing this daily blog of what I see when I read these scriptures, I get more out of them. I hope that by posting these ruminations others may get some benefit as well. In order to make that possible I read the passages and write my thoughts a day in advance. If you have any thoughts or comments regarding these verses or what I have written about them, please post them.

Lamentations 3:1-66

When we reach a point in our life where we experience disappointment and loss, we must remember that God’s love never fails. He will be good to those who seek Him and desire to do His will. I will accept the trials and troubles which God sends my way. Troubles which come because I have failed to live as He has instructed. Trials which come to test me and help me grow in my faith in Him. I know that the difficult times will not last, if only I turn to God and seek His will.

Hebrews 1:1-14

Jesus is God’s Son. He radiates God’s glory and shows us God’s very character. We can know what God is like by looking at Jesus. In the same way, we are called to allow Jesus to live within us so that we also might radiate God’s glory and show others what God is like.
This passage also contains the message that we are not to worship angels. They are servants sent to serve and care for those whom God has called to be His children.

DSCN4263

Psalm 102:1-28

The psalmist cries out to God from despair. He is deeply troubled and facing trials that are more than he can bear. Yet he has faith that God will answer his prayer. When this life is more than we can bear, let us, also, cry out to God. I will remember that God has rescued others in the past from troubles greater than those I face. He will hear my prayer and act. His actions today will lead future generations to praise His name.

Proverbs 26:21-22

We have a tendency to want to hear all of the latest gossip, but it colors our judgment. We often forget that the information is unconfirmed and make judgments based on it that have results we regret when the gossip turns out to be false.

God’s Paint-By-Numbers Collection, Green Lane Edition #267

Lamentations 3:1-66

The prophet speaks of the suffering he has undergone, of the torment, pain and affliction he has experienced. Yet despite the utter despair of his situation, he declares that he will dare to hope. He will continue to hope because God’s love is faithful and never ends, God’s mercies never cease. He tells us to wait quietly for the Lord in our times of tribulation. God will bring grief to us, but He will also show us compassion. When we suffer tribulation, let us acknowledge our sinfulness and turn back to God and strive to serve Him. When we seem completely overwhelmed by our enemies, let us call on the Lord and have faith that He will deliver us.

Fall at Green Lane Park

Hebrews 1:1-14

In the past God spoke through the prophets, now He has spoken through His Son. God created the universe through His Son. The Son radiates God’s glory and expresses the very character of God. The Son has cleansed us from our sins and now sits in the place of highest honor at the right hand of God. The Son is far greater than the angels. While the earth and the heavens will come to an end, the Son will rule forever from the throne that God has established for Him. The Son is not some sort of greater angel, He is something entirely different. The angels are ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit the salvation provided by the Son.

The Beauty of Fall Over the Lake

Psalm 102:1-28

The Lord will not reject the pleas of the destitute. He will listen to their prayers. God will live forever and He does not change. Even today He will do such great things that a generation not yet born will praise His name for them. Time and again throughout history God has done things which demonstrate His great power, let us praise Him for those things as long as we draw breath.

The Beauty of Fall Across Green Lane Lake

Proverbs 26:21-22

Some people start fights in the same way that hot embers light charcoal. It is almost as if they cannot help themselves. Let us strive not to be like that. Rumors are tempting tidbits that sink into our hearts and effect our judgement long after we have forgotten their origins.
