I am using the daily Bible reading schedule from “The Bible.net” for my daily Bible reading.
Today, I am reading and commenting on Exodus 28-29.
Today’s passage contains more descriptions of the instructions given to the Israelites about how to make things for worship. In this case, the outfits to be worn by the priests. The items made to fit these descriptions are often used later in the Bible as symbolism about, a metaphors for, our relationship with God. The entire passage, including the ordination of the priests, provides us with an understanding of the effort we should put in to presenting ourselves before God. One thing that is easy to miss about these instructions is that they were given AFTER God had come to the Israelites on Mount Sinai. God does not desire us to go through these efforts before coming to Him; we do not need to go through these efforts before coming to Him. Rather, having been in God’s presence inspires us to make the effort to purify ourselves.
